Another close neighbor became part of the First Church family this fall! Like Kathy Bieski, Austin Gross who lives directly across the church on Washington Street, will be featured on the organ once a month giving Carol Hanebury some well-earned time off. Austin graduated from Emmaus High School where he played bass in the jazz band and sang in then school choir. The next step on the journey that would eventually bring him to First Church was at West Chester University where he played in the jazz band but more importantly it was where he met the young woman who would become his wife.
Now married nine years, Austin and Jaclyn are the parents of daughter Greta, one year old. After playing the piano for 18 years, Austin decided he wanted to learn to play the organ so this took him to Grace Lutheran Church where he took his first lessons. A member of the Music Department in the Coatesville School District, he is in charge of the orchestra program. Meanwhile his wife teaches French and Spanish in the Lower Merion School District. Kathy Bieski, Carol Hanebury, and Austin Gross, making heavenly music – Alleluia!
